Pageant Prep 101 - Issue 2
Pageant Day
• Punctuality – Being punctual is so very important on pageant day. In fact, you should plan to arrive in the room at least 15-30 mins early to ensure proper loading ability.
• Come dressed in round 1 pretty much always unless otherwise specified. Or, you can enter the room already dressed in the outfit and then change. This decreases loading time which decreases lag space.
• CTRL+B removes chat bubbles. This helps with lag. Also, opening your Settings tab and keeping it open should help with lag as well. This is how we don’t crash out and lose our spot in a pageant.
• Pay close attention when you are being given directions. The coordinators are helping you so you will succeed in the pageant, so don’t chat cheat or you will miss important information.
• PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! As long as the room is open, you should practice your walk as much as you can. You want it to be PERFECT on pageant night. This also includes showing up to the practices before the pageant. If you don’t show, you have no one to blame but yourself and you don’t really care about the crown.
• Be respectful when you are in the room. Respect yourself, other contestants, and their guests, as well as pageant staff. This means no talking when a contestant is on the runway or when the host is speaking.
• Roleplay is not for every pageant. If you’re going to use it, please use it wisely. Flipping your hair, wiggling your hips, and blowing kisses at judges does not make you look sophisticated. Judges are looking for someone who is classy, a little sassy, and deserves the crown.
• Do NOT whisper judges. It is unethical for contestants to interact with judges in any way. If you do this, you are considered a cheater and may be docked points or disqualified completely.
• READ DIRECTIONS when they are given to you either in the group or in the room at the time. FOLLOW THEM too! People notice when you don’t.
• Guests. Do NOT invite your guests until the host tells you that it is time to do so. It is most important that every contestant is able to enter and then load upon entering for the pageant. Contestants, staff, and judges first. Your guests come later. Wait for the cue and then invite them when told it is OK to do so.
